Alice's story, spanning most of the twentieth century describes family life on a homestead and growing up in rural Montana in the early 1900's. From the lighthearted

It tells how the dreams and aspirations of a young woman were dashed in a disastrous marriage to an alcoholic which ultimately ended after a near fatal, disfiguring,
railroad accident. It's the story of the indomitable spirit of a single, divorced woman in the 1930's and her struggle to raise a family. It tells of her ability to triumph over adversity and
her rise to a succcessful career and a fulfilled life.
It also relates experiences from her extensive travels which demonstrates how the world shrunk during her lifetime. She saw much of it, not as an ordinary tourist,
although she did that too, but from the viewpoint of personal involvement with people she met along her way
